Project Description

San Francisco Public Works and the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission have joined to complete infrastructure improvements as part of the Claremont, Juanita, and Yerba Buena Pavement Renovation and Sewer Replacement Project. This project will include sewer main replacement, curb ramp installation, street base repairs, grinding (removal of existing asphalt) and repaving. Note: Not all blocks will include sewer main replacement work. Public Works has hired Michael O'Shaughnessy Construction, Inc. to complete the work.

Construction began at the first location in September 2023 with completion expected at the last location in July 2024. San Francisco Public Works is managing the project during construction. The allowable work hours are typically 7:30 AM to 6 PM, Monday through Friday. Weekend work is allowed however none is anticipated at this time.

The blocks included in this project are the following:

  • Claremont Blvd (Dorchester Way to Kensington Way)
  • Dawnview Way (Burnett Avenue to Glenview Drive)
  • Glenview Drive (Dawnview Way to Portola Drive)
  • Portola Drive (End to Glenview Drive)
  • Juanita Way (Marne Avenue to Teresita Boulevard)
  • Yerba Buena Avenue (Monterey Blvd. to Maywood Drive)
  • Colon Avenue (Monterey Blvd. to Montecito Avenue)
  • Kenwood Way (Keystone Way to Upland Drive)
  • Foerster Street (Los Palmos Drive to Teresita Blvd.)

The blocks scheduled for sewer work are as follows:

  • Yerba Buena Avenue (Hazelwood Avenue to Baxter Alley)
  • Colon Avenue (Monterey Blvd. to Montecito Avenue)
  • Foerster Street (Teresita Blvd. to Gatun Alley)
  • Portola Drive (End to Glenview Drive)
  • Glenview Drive and Dawnview Way intersection
  • Claremont Blvd. and Dorchester Way intersection
  • Juanita Way and Del Sur Avenue intersection
  • Juanita Way and Evelyn Way intersection
  • Juanita Way and Rex Avenue intersection

The first phase will include sewer main replacement work. Our engineers have reviewed video of the existing sewer main and have determined some should be replaced at this time. Once the new sewer main has been installed, our engineers will review video of the sewer laterals to determine which, if any, need to be replaced. The sewer laterals are the connection between the main and the curb/sidewalk. Note: Sewer laterals are only replaced on an as-needed basis depending on the condition of the existing line. Sewer service will not be interrupted during construction. Please continue to use your household and business plumbing as usual.

Once the sewer work is complete, crews may begin installing curb ramps at intersections along the project limits. After the curb ramp work is complete, crews will start prepping the area for final paving. Preparations may include concrete street base replacement work. This task will require the contractor saw-cut, excavate the broken concrete, and pour fresh cement. This may happen at several isolated locations along a given block. Replacing the damaged/broken/sunken street base now will help prolong the durability of the new pavement.

We thank you for your patience during construction and are available should you have any questions about the project.
