*** POSTPONED DUE TO RAIN. WORK WILL RESUME ON WEDNESDAY 11/10/2021. ***

27th Avenue (California Street to El Camino Del Mar)
27th Avenue (El Camino Del Mar to Automobile Drive)
Lake Street (27th Avenue to 28th Avenue)

Thursday November 11, 2021 - Grind (remove existing asphalt from roadway)
El Camino Del Mar (26th Avenue to Presidio National Park)
Sea Cliff (26th Avenue to approximately 320 Sea Cliff Avenue)

Friday November 12, 2021 - Repave
El Camino Del Mar (26th Avenue to Presidio National Park)
Sea Cliff (26th Avenue to approximately 320 Sea Cliff Avenue)

Day 1 -- During the grinding phase (removal of existing asphalt from the roadway), access to enter and exit driveways will be maintained, however slight delays should be expected if crews are working on the lane closest to your driveway. Please allow a few extra minutes of travel time.

Day 2 – During the paving phase, driveway access may be delayed while crews work on the lane closest to your driveway. The contractor will apply a tack coat (liquid asphalt) to the roadway in advance of the hot asphalt. The tack coat promotes bonding between the concrete street base and the hot asphalt. During application of the tack coat and new asphalt, driveway access will not be possible until the asphalt cools-down. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Work on the project is scheduled to start in early October 2021 and is anticipated to be complete in early April 2022.

The intersections scheduled for curb ramp improvements are:
El Camino Del Mar and 27th Avenue
El Camino Del Mar and 28th Avenue
El Camino Del Mar and Lake Street
El Camino Del Mar and 32nd Avenue
Scenic Way and 26th Avenue
Lake Street and 27th Avenue

The blocks scheduled to be repaved are:
El Camino Del Mar: 32nd Avenue to Presidio National Park
Sea Cliff Avenue: Scenic Way to El Camino Del Mar
McLaren Avenue: 30th Avenue to 29th Avenue
29th Avenue: McLaren Avenue to California Street
28th Avenue: Lake Street to California Street
27th Avenue: Automobile Drive to California Street
Lake Street: 28th Avenue to 27th Avenue
Sea View Terrace: 31st Avenue to 30th Avenue
31st Avenue: Sea View Terrace to California Street

Project Sequence
The first phase of work will include installation of curb ramps at intersections. This work will require saw-cutting of the sidewalk and gutter, removing and replacing concrete in the gutter area, and placing asphalt in the gutter area. Curb ramps provide an accessible path of travel onto and off of sidewalks. Providing curb ramps is a fundamental way that the City strives to meet the goals of accessibility statues and regulations, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Curb ramps are typically a dark charcoal color in order to provide visual contrast with the light grey surrounding sidewalk color. The color differential and the yellow detectible warning tiles provide essential wayfinding information to persons with low vision as they enter or exit the crosswalk area.

Once the curb ramp work is complete, crews will begin replacing any damaged (broken or sunken) sections of the concrete street base. Replacing damaged sections of the street base will allow us to extend the life of the roadway once we repave the block. This phase of work will require the contractor saw-cut sections of the roadway, remove the concrete, and pour new concrete.

The final phase of construction will be grinding (removal of existing asphalt) and repaving. The grinding and paving phase will typically take 3 days to complete on each block.
