Various Locations Sewer Replacement and Pavement Renovation Project No. 43

Project Description

San Francisco Public Works and the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission partnered to complete infrastructure improvements on several blocks in the Excelsior neighborhood. Our partnership allowed us to minimize impacts to the public by consolidating our work whenever possible. Work on this contract is complete.

This project included sewer main replacement, curb ramp installation, street base repairs and repaving. All blocks included sewer work with the exception of Morse Street. Work hours varied by location, however, typical working hours were 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The blocks included in this contract were the following:

  • Madrid Street (Geneva Avenue to Amazon Avenue) – Work is complete at this location
  • Madrid Street (Italy Avenue to Russia Avenue) – Work is complete at this location
  • Madrid Street (Excelsior Avenue to Silver Avenue) – Work is complete at this location
  • Paris Street (Geneva Avenue to Avalon Avenue) - Work is complete at this location
  • Trumbull Street (Craut Street to Stoneybrook Avenue) - Work is complete at this location
  • Morse Street (Pope Street to Curtis Street) –  Work is complete at this location

The typical sequence of sewer work is to install the main along the block(s) followed by sewer lateral replacement. Once the sewer main has been installed, Public Works’ engineering team reviewed video of the sewer laterals to determine which, if any, needed to be replaced. The sewer laterals are the connection between the main and the sidewalk.

Please note: sewer laterals are replaced on an as-needed basis between the main and sidewalk. Sewer service will not be interrupted during construction. Please continue to use your household and business plumbing as usual.

During sewer replacement, driveway access may be impacted while crews work on your block. Please allow extra travel time should crews need to plate over the trench and create a path for your vehicle. If crews are working in front of your house, please let them know a few minutes before you need to exit your driveway. They may need to create a path of travel for your vehicle. We appreciate your cooperation and patience during construction.

Once the sewer work has been completed on a block, crews will begin preparations to repave the block or rebuild the concrete roadway. Preparations may include installation of curb ramps or bulb-outs, concrete street base repairs, grinding (removal of existing asphalt) and roadway paving.
