Project Description
San Francisco Public Works and the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission have partnered to complete infrastructure improvements on several blocks in the Excelsior, Outer Mission, and Ingleside neighborhoods. Our partnership allows us to minimize impacts to the public by consolidating our work whenever possible. This project will include sewer main replacement, curb ramp installation, street base repairs, repaving and concrete street reconstruction work. Work hours may vary by location, however typical working hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Weekend work is allowed but has not been scheduled at this time. The entire project is anticipated to take approximately 1-year to complete.

The blocks included in this contract are as follows:

  • Faxon Avenue: Elmwood Avenue to Kenwood Way / Completed
  • Westwood Drive: Miramar Avenue to Wildwood Way / Completed
  • Brunswick Street: Lowell Street to Florentine Avenue / Completed
  • Regent Street: Cayuga Avenue to San Jose Avenue / Sewer work is ongoing.
  • Athens Street: Brazil Avenue to Russia Avenue / Sewer work is complete. Final paving work remains.
  • Edinburgh Street: Russia Avenue to France Avenue / Sewer is expected to commence in February.

Please note: In addition to repaving, the Edinburgh Street location will also include reconstruction of some sections of the concrete portion of the roadway.

The typical sequence of sewer work is to install the main along the block(s) followed by sewer lateral replacement. Once the sewer main has been installed, Public Works’ engineering team will review video of the sewer laterals to determine which, if any, need to be replaced. The laterals are the sewer connection between the main and the sidewalk curb. Please note, sewer laterals are only replaced on an as-needed basis depending on the condition of the line. Sewer service will not be interrupted during construction. Please continue to use your household and business plumbing as usual.

During sewer replacement, driveway access may be impacted while crews work on your block. Please allow extra travel time should crews need to plate over the trench and create a path for your vehicle. If crews are working in front of your house, please let them know a few minutes before you need to exit your driveway. They may need to create a path of travel for your vehicle. We appreciate your cooperation and patience during construction.

Once the sewer work has been completed on a block, crews will begin preparations to repave the block or rebuild some of the concrete street roadway panels. Preparations may include installation of curb ramps, concrete street base repairs.
