Lombard Street Vision Zero Project

Traffic Advisory:  Caltrans Bay Area has scheduled daytime lane closures from Monday, March 15, 2021 through July 2021, Monday through Friday on U.S. 101 Lombard Street between U.S. 101 Van Ness Ave and Lyon Street for a series of roadway improvements. 

The project will involve:

(1) replacing parking slabs / parking spots
(2) grinding and repaving the roadway
(3) upgrading various curb ramps to ADA standards
(4) utility work
(5) electrical work and
(6) re-striping the lanes and crosswalk.

San Francisco Public Works Project Completed Fall 2020:

The Lombard Street Vision Zero Project includes numerous safety treatments to make the high-injury corridor safer for everyone. San Francisco constructed pedestrian safety enhancements as well as transit performance enhancements and utility improvements on US 101 (Lombard Street at Richardson Avenue) between Francisco Street and Van Ness Avenue. The project was sponsored by the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency, San Francisco Public Utilities Commission and San Francisco Public Works. The project was managed by San Francisco Public Works during construction.

Safety improvements completed include:

  • Pedestrian safety enhancements, including pedestrian and transit bulb-outs, tightened corner radii and pedestrian islands
  • Traffic and pedestrian signal modifications
  • Water main replacement and upgrades
  • Sewer main replacement and rehabilitation
  • New concrete bus pads
