Various Locations (VL) Traffic Signal Improvement Project

The Contract 35 Traffic Signal Upgrade work schedule, revised August 25, 2026, includes traffic signal foundations, conduit and pull-box installation, temporary restoration, and sewer work at several San Francisco intersections. Work is scheduled to progress in phases beginning in August 2026.

 

Current and Upcoming Locations

  • Fulton Street & 30th Avenue: Foundations, conduit and pull-box installation, temporary restoration, and sewer work.
  • Fulton Street & 36th Avenue: Foundations, conduit and pull-box installation, and temporary restoration.
  • Clement Street & 25th Avenue: Planned foundations, conduit and pull-box installation, temporary restoration, and sewer work.
  • Anza Street & 25th Avenue: Foundations, conduit and pull-box installation, temporary restoration, and sewer work.
  • 16th Street & Sanchez Street: Foundations, conduit and pull-box installation, and temporary restoration.
  • Baker Street & Hayes Street: Foundations, conduit and pull-box installation, and temporary restoration.
  • Post Street & Larkin Street: Planned foundations, conduit and pull-box installation, temporary restoration, and sewer work.

Construction activities will occur in phases, and schedules may change as work progresses. Residents, pedestrians, and motorists should follow posted signs and temporary traffic-control measures around active work areas.

 

 

Contract No. 35 Traffic Signal Upgrades, a citywide infrastructure project designed to improve traffic signal systems and pedestrian accessibility at intersections throughout San Francisco.

Work will be performed by Bay Area Lightworks, Inc. under the direction of San Francisco Public Works and began June 2026, with completion expected in June 2027.

 

What the Project Includes

The project will involve a range of improvements, including:

  • Traffic signal upgrades and related equipment
  • New or improved traffic signal foundations
  • Curb ramp and pedestrian accessibility improvements
  • Sewer replacement and associated street work
  • Traffic control and construction-related activities
  • Temporary pedestrian routing, signage, and barricades

Work is planned at numerous intersections across San Francisco, including locations along:

  • 6th Avenue at Irving Street
  • 25th Avenue at Clement Street
  • 30th Street at San Jose Avenue
  • Alemany Boulevard at Sickles Avenue
  • California Street at Larkin Street
  • Evans Avenue at Phelps Street
  • Larkin Street at Post Street
  • 16th Street at Sanchez Street
  • 25th Avenue at Anza Street
  • 29th Street at San Jose Avenue
  • 30th Avenue at Fulton Street
  • 36th Avenue at Fulton Street
  • Anza Street at Stanyan Street
  • Baker Street at Hayes Street
  • Haight Street at Steiner Street
  • Holloway Avenue at Junipero Serra Boulevard
  • Portola Drive at Twin Peaks Boulevard

Additional intersections may be affected as construction progresses.

 

Construction Schedule and Traffic Impacts

Standard work hours are expected to be Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Residents, pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists should expect temporary traffic controls, construction activity, parking restrictions, and changes to pedestrian routes.

Parking restrictions and construction signage will generally be posted at least 72 hours before work begins at an affected location. Residents and travelers are encouraged to follow posted signs and temporary traffic-control measures and allow additional time when traveling through active construction areas.
