Volunteers to Beautify and Clean District 7 Neighborhoods
San Francisco, CA – More than 200 volunteers will join Mayor London Breed, District 7 Supervisor Norman Yee and Public Works crews on Saturday morning at this month’s Community Clean Team workday to green and clean west-side neighborhoods and bolster civic pride as part of the Love Our City campaign.
What: Community Clean Team District 7 cleanup
Date: Saturday, October 27, 2018
Time: 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. (registration at 8:30 a.m.; speaking program starts at 9 a.m.)
Location: Kickoff at Lowell High School, 1101 Eucalyptus Dr., San Francisco
Who: Mayor London Breed, Supervisor Norman Yee, Public Works crews and more than 200 volunteers, including many high school students
Community Clean Team, Public Works’ largest and longest-running volunteer program, hits the ground in a different supervisorial district each month. Saturday’s event is the 10th of 11 workdays planned for this year. Established in 2000, the program has logged more than 176,000 volunteer hours, added more than 33,900 plants to public spaces, and painted over more than 3.6 million square feet of graffiti.
Volunteers from all over the City unite for a few hours on Saturday mornings at Community Clean Team events to help clean and beautify San Francisco neighborhoods by landscaping medians, planting trees, sprucing up tree basins, abating graffiti and picking up litter. Volunteers gather after the work is done to share a community meal.
Photo opportunities at Saturday’s event include:
- Pruning and weeding along Portola Drive
- Clearing debris along Alemany Boulevard
- Scrubbing bleachers and sweeping up trash at Lowell High School
- Sprucing up tree basins along Junipero Serra Boulevard
